Criminal practice encompasses state court defense of all criminal charges, including felonies, misdemeanors and traffic matters.  Mr. Wertz regularly appears in front of the Colorado Department of Revenue on driver's license proceedings.

Mr. Wertz's trial experience includes over two dozen jury trials in felony, misdemeanors and civil trials.

Mr. Wertz presently serves on the Aspen-Pitkin County Liquor Licensing Authority and formerly served as a member of the Aspen-Pitkin County Clean Air Advisory Board.

Mr. Wertz is a member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the Colorado Trial Lawyers Association, the Colorado Criminal Defense bar, the Colorado Bar Association, the Pitkin County Bar Association, the Aspen Young professionals Association and the Ninth Judicial District Bar Association.  Mr. Wertz regularly donates his time to pro bono consultations with indigent persons through the Pitkin County Bar Association's Talk To A Lawyer Night.

A native of Pennsylvania, Mr. Wertz was born in Lancaster, PA in 1964 and raised in Pittsburgh.  He received his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Lehigh University in January of 1988.  He received his Juris Doctor Cum Laude from Duquesne University School of Law in 1996.  At Duquesne Law, Mr. Wertz was a member and staff editor of the Duquesne Law Review and was twice elected as president of his class.

Mr. Wertz is single and lives in Aspen, Colorado.  He enjoys golf and skiing in his spare time.
